

What is the difference between 6061 Aluminum and 5052 Aluminum?

5052 is slightly softer, having better workability (bending and forming) than 6061 and also has better corrosion resistance. Both have good weldability.
6061 is much more common, and is cheaper as well. For most hobby uses, 6061 is acceptable.
If you want something that is a pleasure to turn, try some 7075. It cuts cleanly and polishes up really nice, but doesn't weld well.
